Lessons
Thank you for checking out the lessons tab! I offer lessons in voice, piano, and ukulele. I believe that everyone is capable of creating music. Whether you are 5 years old or 95, it is never too late to learn an instrument. I also know that it can be difficult to find a private teacher who works well with special needs students. I have experience, and thoroughly enjoy, working with students who have all kinds of specific needs. I promise to work with you to find the best approach for teaching your child or yourself. Below you will find more information on pricing and each instrument. Head over to the Specials/Discounts page for additional discounts.

Voice- During my time at NYU, I learned the importance of singing in a healthy, sustainable way. Whether my students want to sing musical theatre, classical, or pop, I believe it is important for them to learn how to make a healthy sound. I do not simply sing a note or a song and have my students sing it back. I educate my students about their vocal anatomy and teach them techniques to keep it healthy. I explain why each technique is important because I find that my students respond and retain information better when they understand why we're practicing something. I have had students accepted into prestigious performing arts high schools and university summer programs as well as students who have placed in Chicago area competitions. My students have also been cast as leads in their school plays and have been accepted into their middle and high schools' most advanced choirs. *Note- Students under 12 years of age will be considered for private voice lessons on an individual basis. Please contact me for more information.*
Piano- I offer piano lessons for all ages and levels. I have found in my teaching experience that it is very easy to be a mediocre piano teacher. It's simple to give a student a sticker and pass them on a song because they played all of the correct notes in the right order. However, I don't think that serves the student. Teaching that way will never allow the student to be more than just okay. I emphasize the importance of using proper technique from the very first lesson. I expect my students to practice their assignments and make an effort. I believe piano should be fun, but it should also teach the value of hard work and discipline. I also understand that, just like in school, students learn and grow at different paces. One student may complete one to two songs in a week while another may complete five. I would not expect a 6 year old beginner piano student to practice as long as a 16 year old advanced piano student. My lesson plans are individualized for each student.
Ukulele- Ukulele was not my first instrument, but once I started playing, I fell in love very quickly. I find that the ukulele is a very accessible instrument that can give students a solid musical foundation. My ukulele students learn to read music and play chords. I also always make sure to have a fun song that the student is excited to play.
